The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife (Tenerife Island Council) has awarded Altia a two-year contract for the provision of development, management, maintenance, evolution and diffusion services for the open data portal, Open Data Tenerife, which aims to become a benchmark in open data dissemination and use on the island.

The Tenerife government uses this project to make the information resources published in Open Data Tenerife available to citizens, companies, researchers and other public institutions, in a format that facilitates its reuse and dissemination by people and computer systems.

Their objective is to contribute to the transparency of the island’s governing council and to promote open government by making available the information resources published in Open Data Tenerife. These data can provide added public value in the social, economic, research and innovation realms.

The main benefits of this project are that it allows the Tenerife government to give visibility to the services created with open data; it facilitates the federation of open data from other organizations dependent on the Cabildo; it favours the creation of a community and an open-data centred ecosystem in Tenerife; it deepens the automation of the extraction, transformation and publication of open data processes, and guarantees that these advances align with the objectives defined in Tenerife 2030 and the Strategic Framework for Island Development (MEDI) 2016-2025.

According to Manuel Saz, Associate Director of Altia, “this project strengthens Altia's position as an expert company in data processing, collaborating with local public administrations in the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at facilitating the use of reliable information by citizens and companies in order to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.”

For this project, Altia has a highly professional team with extensive experience and high qualifications in very specific technologies, such as ETL (data transformation), CKAN, Python and CMS, all of which are Open-Source technologies. However, we cannot forget other profiles vital to this project, in which outreach to society –for the later use and leverage of the results– plays a predominant role, such as those in areas including marketing and legal.

This project reinforces our leading position in data processing and our collaboration with local public administrations for the development and implementation of initiatives aimed at facilitating the use of reliable information by citizens and companies.
